On December 16th, the Life Sciences Discovery Fund (LSDF) issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking 2011 Commercialization Grants for both Round 1 and Round 2. LSDF a Washington state grant-making authority supports research and development to provide for the commercialization of technologies to improve health and healthcare.
LSDF has allocated $750,000 for commercialization grants for two competitions in 2011, with individual requests to not exceed $150,000. Proposals will be accepted from eligible Washington public, non-profit, or for profit organizations, singularly or collaboratively.
LSDF uses grant funding to help organizations become more competitive and to help translate high impact discoveries into widespread use. The products contemplated by commercialization grants must have the potential to make a positive impact on health or healthcare and should also reduce the associated costs.
The funding may provide for:
• Tools that have the potential to lead to breakthroughs in health-related research
• Products to help diagnose, treat, prevent, or manage disease
• Products to manage healthcare delivery environments and systems
• Promoting healthy patient behaviors and compliance with care providers recommendations
• Products that will help to integrate care providers, patients, and the healthcare systems
LSDF strongly encourages principal investigators to work with a commercialization partner in preparing a grant application. A commercialization partner is an organization or individual having a direct business interest in commercializing the proposed technology or concept.
Round 1 pre-proposals are due March 16, 2011 with full proposals due June 15, 2011. Round 2 pre-proposals are due October 12, 2011 with full proposals due January 11, 2012.
